Alvarion Sets up IOT Lab in Taiwan

Alvarion and the Industrial Technology Research Institute will open a WiMax Interoperability Testing lab in Taiwan. The lab will be set up at ITRI in Hsinchu and will help improve the the relationship between Taiwanese device manufacturers and the core networks of international WiMax carriers.

WiMax products are required to pass tests conducted by laboratories and the cost of shipping products to and from the lab can be high. With the setup of these new labs, suppliers will no longer have to ship their products internationally for testing, thus saving time and money.

Taiwan is quickly becoming a major hub for WiMax activity. There is already a major research and design for CPEs and manufacturers like Motorola and Alcatel-Lucent launched their own IOT labs in 2008.

Alvarion has established multiple relationships including work with Vmax Telecom, one of Taiwan’s WiMax operators. Alvarion has also worked with Chungwa Telecom to start mobile WiMax services in the northeastern county of Yilan.
