The proposed AT&T – T-Mobile transaction poses a conflict and a challenge for the Obama Administration. Both the President and the FCC’s National Broadband Plan promote the goal of rolling out next generation wireless broadband service to 95 percent of the nation. Proponents of the transaction claim that the AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile’s spectrum licenses is the best way for the company to meet the nation’s broadband goals.

Due to the release of the Apple iPhone powered by Verizon in February, Sprint Nextel has been sustaining contract wireless subscriber losses in the first quarter of 2010. However, Sprint has, almost miraculously, managed to expand its customer base nonetheless.

Sprint announced yesterday the release of the Samsung Nexus S, due out May 8. The Nexus S will be fourth in the line of 4G phones on Sprint’s WiMAX network following the Evo 4G, the Epic 4G, and the recent Evo Shift 4G.

Who was it that said Sprint was strapped for cash and would let their CLEAR initiative fall flat? With the recent news that Sprint is injecting one billion dollars into CLEAR, I think it’s pretty much solidified that WiMAX is here, alive and well.
