wimax-hotelAccessibility, comfort and convenience are at the cornerstone of the hospitality business; why not pair that with the ever-expanding technology market ? The WiMAX service & equipment provider, Quantum Networks is now offering its high-speed Internet access services to American hotels on their list of clientele. Quantum Networks, whose clientele mainly consists of businesses, will improve the faltering services of previous Internet providers, in hotels and resorts throughout the country.

Innovations such as these are exactly what world needs, Wimax is Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access,  a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access.

As any large hotel or conference center will contend, handling large amounts of both internal and external data transfers, due to its massive occupancy, can cause some problems. Quantum Networks has the ability to plan and execute a Wimax solution that would enable, the resort to host the needs of any of its patrons, from video-conferencing for its business clients, to simple web browsing for those vacationing in the area.

The ubiquity of WiMax seems imminent as more and more companies and countries are announcing its deployment.  In New York City, home of Quantum Networks, it is only a question of time as Wimax giants such as Clearwire are planning the expansion to this great city.… Read the rest

Strategy Analytics – an independent international research firm specializing in emerging digital technologies, predicts that consumer WiMAX subscriptions in the developing countries of Asia will grow from a few thousand now to almost 27 million by 2013.The report also predicts that the strongest growth will come outside the major cities of Asia.
According to Techon Subscriptions in villages and small towns are forecast to grow at almost 300% per year, three times the rate of major cities. Government policies aimed at closing the rural-urban “digital divide” are one reason for this rapid growth, but historic lack of broadband alternatives is at least as strong a factor.

The report states that initially WiMAX providers will supply service in major cities as the population there is more familiar with Internet use and will be willing to pay for it but at the same time WiMAX in those cities is not the only option for Internet access. The fact that there are less internet providers in rural areas at times as a result of no infrastructure will be beneficial for WiMAX . This wireless technology enables ultra high speed data transfer often through cell towers .

This scenario is playing out pretty precisely in Malaysia, Packet one who provide Wimax in Malaysia first introduced the technology in Kuala Lumpur but is now focusing its efforts in Penang and Johor both less densely populated and not as central.”Incumbent broadband suppliers and cellular operators offering High-Speed Packet Access, HSPA, alternatives are formidable competitors in the big cities,” noted David Kerr, head of Strategy Analytics Global Wireless Practice. “There’s simply a lot more unserved demand in market towns and provincial business centers.”… Read the rest

The city of Bodrum in the southwest part of Turkey draws an estimated 1.5 million beach goers in the summer months. In past years the Turkish Ministry of interior has made the decision to improve video surveillance in all of turkey and because Bodrum is the second largest tourist city in the country it was on the top of the list for security decision makers.
According to a Proxim press release the Bodrum Police Department commissioned the construction of a city-wide wireless video surveillance network, utilizing Proxim’s Tsunami(TM) MP.16 3500 licensed band WiMAX radios as the wireless backhaul to connect over 70 video cameras.
Proxim once again joined forces with Corvus, a local distributor for this project in Bodrum “This is the 9th wireless video deployment we have executed with Proxim’s broadband wireless technology, and each and every time we have been able to save our customers millions on deployment costs over wired infrastructure,” said Atilgan Yilmaz, General Manager of Corvus.
According to dailywireless.org Proxim and Corvus deployed over 70 digital surveillance cameras  each of which required at least 3.5 Mbps at any given time to provide 25 frame-per-second performance and 4CIF video quality.… Read the rest

A year after Sprint Nextel merged its WiMAX business with ClearWire, Computer Word reported Sprint Nextel will be the first to kick off a tri-mode handset- the first stand alone WiMAX Cell Phone. According to Scott Lane, director of marketing and sales for Sprint’s 4G unit, The phone would function in three wireless modes. Including WiMax and CDMA, the third mode will most likely be Wi-Fi, although that has not yet been confirmed.  The WiMax handset also “could be based on Android “partly because Sprint has a “close relationship with Google,” the main proponent of Android, Lane noted. Still, he said he would not commit to the operating system being based on Android because there are other operating systems that have the processing power to work with high-speed WiMax.Sprint, the nation’s third largest wireless network spun off its WiMAX initiative named Xohm but has since been employing a 20 person team that focused on WiMAX product development and marketing strategy. Sprint is also preparing to sell WiMax-related products in future Clear markets, which Lane said should reach 40 million to 50 million customers by the end of 2009.… Read the rest

The Wimax Forum® said today they expect the current number of people who have access to Wimax Networks to double by the end of 2010. Currently over 430 Million people around the world have access to next generation WiMax networks. These staggering numbers influenced the following remarks from Ron Resnick, president and chairman of the WiMAX Forum: “These new deployment numbers reveal the mobile Internet WiMAX ecosystem has achieved strong growth and will continue to satisfy the market demand to deliver high-speed broadband services in 2009. Certified products in the 3.5 GHz band will now give more operators access to the equipment and devices needed to deliver mobile broadband services.” Intel, a long time proponent of WiMax communications also made remarks regarding the Forum’s predictions . Sean Maloney, executive vice president said “In both emerging markets and mature countries, companies and governments are deploying 4G WiMAX networks to help bridge the digital divide and bring affordable, super-fast mobile broadband to their citizens. As countries look to accelerate broadband in 2009 to address economic recovery, WiMAX is ready – it’s the right technology at the right time. There is no need to wait – WiMAX is a reality today.”

People usually associate WiMax with great big companies such as Alvarion and Airspan, but in 2008 it was ZTE who was responsible for 16% of the new WiMax networks worldwide. ZTE based in Shenzhen, China has been around since 1985 and employs over 40,000 people.  ZTE allocates 33% of its employees to research and development and has established 16 facilities across Europe, North America and Asia to do just that .One of ZTE’s most interesting breakthroughs was unveiled In Barcelona earlier this week  in preparation for Mobile World Congress 2009. According to Unstrung it is the industry’s smallest WiMax 16e Remote Radio Unit. The product- R9110 helps reduce the number of base stations by 50%, there for enabling telecom operators to maximize their return on investment.
