Level 3 Communications have expanded their relationship with Clearwire by to supporting their CLEAR  WiMax services. The company will provide Clearwire with network transport services as part of their deployment of services in the United States.

Level 3 will deliver high-speed Internet connectivity to Clearwire users in cities  including Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco. Each 10 GB Ethernet connection is a backhaul solution.

“Level 3 delivers nationwide network connectivity to support Clearwire in delivering advanced network technology for mobile broadband,” said Andrew Crouch, president of Wholesale Markets for Level 3.

Clearwire  announced  the expansion of operations for CLEAR’s fast mobile Internet service in Honolulu and Maui. The  service offers mobile internet users broadband-like speeds throughout the coverage area.

“CLEAR is excited to bring to Honolulu and Maui residents, businesses and visitors an Internet experience similar to what they’re used to having at home or the office, anywhere around town or on the go,” said Jon Gelman, Clearwire’s regional vice president. “We’re pleased to provide this community a valuable new category of Internet service designed to make people’s lives more enjoyable and more productive.”

Service will cover 800,000  people in the state of Hawaii. It extends 1,759 square miles over  Oahu, Maui, and Lanai islands.

CLEAR uses a wireless 4G technology  called WiMAX, which provides service areas measured in miles, not feet. WiMax gives you average mobile download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps with bursts over 10 mbps.

CLEAR’s mobile and residential plans can be purchased by the day or by the month including several no-service-contract option. Home Internet service plans start at $25 dollars per month. Regular mobile Internet plans start at $35 per month. Customers can take advantage of CLEAR’s mobile Internet promotion with plans starting at $30 per month for customers that sign-up for service online at www.clear.com. Customers can also purchase a day pass for $10.

Savings are also available for customers by purchasing a combination of services that could include home and mobile or mobile and mobile Internet plans starting at $55 for both, or by signing up for a two-year service agreement. The dual-mode 4G/3G plan is available for just $70 per month with a two-year service agreement. Customers can find full details about the service online or by visiting authorized CLEAR dealers.

Clearwire opened retail stores in Hawaii on December 1. On the island of Oahu, retail stores are located at Windward Mall, Pearlridge Mall, Ala Moana Mall, Kahala Mall and on Keeaumoku St. Retail locations on the island of Maui are located at Queen Kaahumanu Mall and on Dairy Road.

CLEAR offers several simple choices for broadband connectivity. By simply plugging a CLEAR USB modem, users can access the CLEAR WiMax network. Mobile phones that are WiMax compatible can also access the networks.

Clearwire opened up new retail stores in Texas  in December. It is an assist in the effort to expand its products and services in Texas’ largest markets.

Clearwire launched  WiMax services in September 2009 and is now looking to sell accessories for mobile internet users. Sprint also launched WiMax services in Dallas/Ft. Clearwire launched its WiMax service to wireless users in Seattle on December 1.

The coverage area stretches for 120 miles between Tacoma and Bellingham, WA. It also stretches for 17 miles from the Pudget Sound to Issaquah, WA. The service will be offered by both Sprint and Clearwire. Varying pricing plans for WiMax services will be available for mobile users. Sprint will offer a complete data plan for $70 dollar a month which includes the Clearwire 4G connection along with the Sprint 3G connection when 4G is unavailable.

Clearwire is looking to expand to Honolulu and Maui HA before the end of 2009. It now reaches 30 million people in the U.S. with its WiMax services.… Read the rest

Comcast launced its Wimax service in Chicago December 1. Comcast will use the network set up by Clearwire.

Wireless internet consumers may purchase a small USB modem that is usable with most laptops. The service will start at 49.99 per month for one year. Comcast hopes to bundle the offer with their home internet service as to provide users with a discounted rate for both packages. Comcast will also offer a higher-priced package that connects to Sprint’s 3G network when the 4G network is unavailable.

Clearwire and Sprint both offer WiMax services in Chicago. Both are separate from Comcast and each other. Sprint’s WiMax services launched a month ago.

Chicago becomes the fourth city in which Comcast offers WiMax services. The others are Philadelphia, Atlanta and Portland, Ore.… Read the rest
