Far EasTone launched its commercial WiMax network in Taichung, Taiwan. Equipment provider Motorola made the announcement. The telecom started a soft network in December 2009, providing the service on a limited trial. FET will also launch WiMax networks in Tainan and Kaohsiung in the southern part of Taiwan during the first three months of 2010.
“‘We are excited about the launch of the WiMAX service, which provides many possibilities to expand and tailor services for home and mobile users as well as business users and consumers,” Jan Nilsson, president of FET, said, “We are delighted to work with an experienced provider such as Motorola that has designed, supplied and deployed a high-performance and reliable network for FET.”
Those companies granted with WiMax licenses have begun to launch services rather quickly after the Government of Taiwan decided that they would grant no more licenses for WiMax services in the country.
