Franklin Wireless now has complete control over the Diffon Corporation. Previously, Franklin owned a majority share in a research and development laboratory in Seoul, South Korea.
Franklin controls all of Diffon’s seats on the Board of Directors. OC Kim, president of Franklin Wireless will serve as CEO of Diffon. Franklin increased its ownership stake from 51 percent to about 58 percent. They’ve also renamed the company to Franklin Technology Inc.
“Gaining full control of FTI will allow us to directly oversee all of the important initiatives taking place at our South Korea-based R&D facility,” Kim said, “This will include directly managing our company’s product design and development efforts and tightly integrating them into our product roadmap. In addition, the name change reflects FTI’s direct strategic alignment with Franklin Wireless.”
FTI will operate as Franklin Wireless’ R&D facility. It will provide product design, development and manufacturing services to the company. Franklin Wireless makes top of the line WiMAX and 3G CDMA modems for Sprint and Clearwire. Their Franklin U300 device works on both the 3G network from Sprint and CLEAR‘s 4G network. They also make the latest USB modems and other devices.
It’s important to develop and research the latest devices for WiMAX. This re-organization also allows the company to begin developing GSM/LTE devices. A lot of the operators are pleading with the device makers to create dual-mode WiMAX/LTE devices. If Franklin Wireless can develop dual-band USB modems, then they would be ahead of their competitors.
