Malaysia’s government research MIMOS has created the world’s first WiMax/WiFi hybrid solution.
Dubbed the “WiWi,” the solution operates on a 2.3 GHz frequency. MIMOS collaborated with WiMax companies Redtone International, Packet One Networks and Asiaspace. These companies would promote information and communications technology (ICT) through broadband technology such as WiMax.
“MIMOS WiWi is an environmentally-friendly plug-and-play instant broadband hotspot technology platform, which is the ideal solution for cheaper and more affordable connectivity per user,” said Dato’ Abdul Wahab Abdullah, MIMOS president and CEO.
This solution should become part of Malaysia’s Broadband for General Population (BBGP) initiative that is expected to reach 50% of households by 2010.
