
Sri Lanka’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will allocate more frequencies for WiMax. It will also allocate frequencies for Long Term Evolution (LTE) use. Mobile WiMax licenses will be awarded to two new operators with hopes operations will start in February.
Dialog Telekom has expressed interest in the 4G frequences. Reliance Communications is still interested in entering the mobile market in Sri Lanka. Its latest attempt with Sri Lankan broadband and IDD telephony provider Electroteks. Dialog Telekom, Lanka Bell, Suntel and Sri Lanka Telecom already hold WiMax licenses in the 3.5GHz band.
