With the increase in mobility in every aspect of life, the companies of handheld devices are releasing products that are so amazing and powerful that they tackle computers. It is also true that many people today prefer to do their important tasks right through the mobile phone rather than desktops and laptops. Because of increase in power of handheld devices, there was a need for powerful wireless networks. The evolution started from 2.5G or EDGE network and today has reached up to 4th Generation. The first technology that should be called as 4G was the WiMAX, and it was first implemented in a mobile phone by HTC in Max 4G in 2008. However, technically WiMAX resembles much closer to Wi-Fi rather than cellular wireless network. Subsequent releases of phones started to take place that were supporting WiMAX.

Samsung’s galaxy S2 WiMAX is another android that support WiMAX broadband technology. The WiMAX is acronym for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and is a technology that can provide speed performance similar to Wi-Fi networks and its coverage and quality of services are comparable to cellular networks. It is also IP (internet protocol) based like the existing networks. It is a wireless digital system used in communications developed by the IEEE standards. It is proposed for wireless MAN’s, that stands for Metropolitan Area Networks. The distance for coverage in WiMAX is 50 km for fixed stations and about 15 km for mobile stations. The advantage with WiMAX is its low cost in comparison to existing 3G and High Speed Packed Data Applications. This is because the overall cost of deployment of WiMAX is lower than them.

WiMAX is able to give high speed directly in the mobile phone. It is now obvious that in order to support such high speed, the corresponding device and its hardware must be advanced. The Samsung galaxy S2 is a perfect match for it. With the 1.4 GHz processor and Android operating system, it seems to provide the platform that is needed by WiMAX. It has 11 GB internal memory and up to 32 GB expandable memory. It is sufficient to do even heavy work, internet surfing and downloading directly on the phone. As per the ideal conditions, the maximum speed that can be given by Wi-Fi is up to 54Mbps, while WiMAX can give up to 70Mbps. Its operating frequencies are between 2 to 11 GHz and 10 to 60 GHz for licensed and unlicensed brands respectively.
