Today is the day. After months and months of hype and positioning, Sprint released the HTC EVO 4G. It’s the U.S.’ first WiMAX-enabled phone. The device costs $199.99 with a two-year agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new activation or eligible upgrade. They’re available through www.sprint.com, business direct retail stores, Radioshack, Best Buy and Walmart.

“With HTC EVO 4G’s advanced features, like video chat and 3G/4G capability, customers may find themselves using a lot more data, so a plan with unlimited use is key,”  Carrie MacGillivray, program manager at industry market research firm IDC, said, “Customers are looking for simplicity in their voice and data plans. Unlimited plans offer new EVO users the flexibility to use the device as they desire without any worry about exceeding a predetermined limit.”

The EVO 4G brings a new experience to wireless customers. Qik Video Chat allows users to have live high quality video conferencing, including broadcasting a live event to someone that can’t be there. The Qik Video Message allows you to leave video messages for your friends too. Both parties don’t need the Qik Software to broadcast to each other.

Many third party websites have been hyping the HTC EVO as the most advanced phone entering the market. CNET, LAPTOP Magazine and eWeek gave the device Best of Show at CTIA. The HTC EVO 4G works on the Android 2.1 platform. Users have access to over 50,000 apps in the Android Market. In WiMAX markets, users can carry on a conversation while browsing the web simultaneously. Users can provide the fastest wireless connection available, turning the device into a mobile hotspot that connects up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to 4G.

The accessories list provides HTC EVO 4G owners security, including hands-free headsets, spare battery and charging solutions. Customers can also use the Sprint Travel Charger Plus for all the power they need to get through the day. HTC EVO 4G owners must sign up for one of Sprint’s Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data Plans. There’s a $10 per month Premium Data add-on for all owners. It enables greater data speeds in both 3G and 4G. A total of $79.99 per month gets users unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network along with connection to 4G speeds in 33 markets across the U.S.

An optional charge of just $29.99 a month enables the HTC EVO 4G to become a mobile hotspot. Connect your iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone to the fastest wireless connection available. It works on Sprint’s 3G network when 4G isn’t available. The HTC EVO 4G will be the gadget of the summer and should help sign up more WiMAX users. Sprint really did a great job developing the phone, with a lot of great add ons for gadget enthusiasts.
