Taipei City will get a 1,000 taxi fleet equipped with WiMAX. VMAX Telecom will provide the free service on March 9. Initially, it will be free for riders but that probably won’t last long. Taiwan already has a fairly competitive operator market. Vee Telecom was awarded an operator’s license recently and will begin offering the service in April.
This unique application for WiMAX makes Taiwan an even more important WiMAX market place. It provides a quality example of how WiMAX can grow in a technology rich country.
