In dire need of a last-minute turkey recipe?
Desperate to know the exact dimensions of the Mayflower?
Wondering whether Squanto had a last name?
All of the answers to these queries are now even more attainable for New York Sprint Nextel users, thanks to the full deployment of Clearwire 4G WiMAX throughout all five boroughs of NYC. Residents in Tampa, FL, Hartford, CT and New Haven, CT will be joining New Yorkers in relishing the extra blessing that is the much-improved internet speeds CLEAR heralds for WiMAX- upgradeable phones. Sprint Nextel already has a few of these devices on the market – the company began marketing both the HTC Evo 4G and the SAMSUNG Epic 4G over this past summer.
While the initially promised 4G speeds aren’t quite up to par (as per recently released news by the International Telecommunications Union), they still present a significant improvement over the current 3G available.Data speeds of up to 3-8 Mbits/sec can be expected, giving users optimal video performance and a connection which actually outpaces many of competing provider Verizons’s home DSL packages. Worried about travelling between 4G and 3G areas? Have no fear – these phones are entirely capable of reverting to 3G during your (hopefully limited) hiatus from 4G.
The official release of the upgrade doesn’t just give reason for Sprint users to celebrate – Clearwire technology is also used by CLEAR, Time Warner, and Comcast 4G; with identical service for all four providers, customers can shop around for prices and plans best suited to their mobile internet needs. Considering Time Warner and Comcast are debating introducing their own cellphone plans to the mobile market, users might be able to look forward to even more of an option in obtaining their daily dose of WiMAX. The best part? Not one of these providers restricts your usage – WiMAX is officially an unlimited data Internet system, a service agreement between all of its providers.
Next up: come December, Los Angeles and San Francisco can look forward to more than candy canes and nutcrackers in their stockings….
