Will Sprint Be the Next iPhone Provider?

With the release of the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network being the talk of the town, is Sprint ready to join the fun with a 4G WiMAX iPhone? Speculators are keeping their eyes on February 7th, the date of Sprint’s invitational press event in New York. Sprint promises an “industry first” and to show that the “impossible is possible.”

Until now, AT&T monopolized iPhone service with an exclusive contract with Apple. There had been some issues with making the iPhone work on a CDMA network, but the timely technology fix and contract termination with AT&T has made this dream possible. Both Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology, which means Sprint has the prospect of bringing the iPhone 4 to its customers anytime. Moreover, Apple’s COO Tim Cook stated that Verizon does not have an exclusive contract for the iPhone.

Are speculators putting their fingers in the right place? Verizon did the iPhone 4 first, but it still runs only on its 3G network. Could Sprint be pulling an “industry first” 4G WiMAX iPhone 4 out of their magic hat? If Sprint gets that trick to work, they could just be a few paces ahead of their competitors.

WOW I really hope so, that would be great… I just honestly think I’ll ride a unicorn first.

I have a hard time believing the February announcement has anything to do with Apple considering Sprint has invited mostly Android bloggers…this is going to be a dual core 3D display Android device

Apple is going LTE only, pretty much confirmed by ATT and Verizon.
Sprint is WiMAX.
I see T-Mobile getting the iPhone before Sprint, especially considering Apple’s business relationship with T-Mobile’s European parents.

Verizon, in their contract, requested, that Apple exclude Sprint from Apple Iphone and pad products – directly
of course there is a federal law relating to Restraint of Trade – that doesn’t stop the likes of Verizon – already a dishonest company – from putting it in the contract and making someone nullify it. BTW I am very happy in my transition to Sprint both in my phone and broadband card. their promise in 4G to be faster than 3G by 10X is true and in most cases about 15X Verizon 4 bar 3G

Sprint has discussed going to LTE in the past – as well as keeping WiMax (I don’t know why Intel, a part owner in WiMax) cannot remedy the “building wall problems” that are discussed with WiMax

that would be a dream come true.

Apple knows very well that most of Sprint’s subscribers by now are content with their Android offerings, which are only getting better with the hour. If Apple wants to compete head to head with Android it will have to offer its phone to as many vendors as possible. LTE might be the choice of the major telcos but there is a significant number of Wimax subscribers in the developing world that could be taken away from google lest Apple wishes to continue down its path of using a select few vendors while Google continues to take market share. Apple needs to remember that Wimax has a mature ecosytem and soon will evolve into Wimax 2 (.16m), which is backwardly compatible with its legacy platform (.16e). Currently Wimax, in all its forms, Fixed, Nomadic and Mobile, is deployed in 197 and used by 600 firms globally. Currently Android is the only platform where one can get 4G Wimax smartphones and soon Android LTE 4G phones are slated to be introduced by Verizon. Why Apple would want to limit its market to just LTE 4G in the future, when their is a fully functioning Wimax ecosystem is dumbfounding.

Android’s approach is critical mass, their platform is being adopted by almost everyone and they are tech agnostic, 3G, Wimax, LTE or whatever.

If Sprint doesn’t announce on Feb 7th that they will also have the iPhone it will be a great disappointment..and will lose at least 30% of there customers to Verizon ..The facts are att service is awful, but Verizon is awsom so Apple thought they had stock out problems with att .just wait ..If Sprint doesn’t get on the band wagon with Apple they are done let’s face it the only reason Droid is used is because att service is awful and Droid is as close to a iPhone that we could get..and as much as everyone puts down apples iPhone we all want it ..good luck to all careers that don’t get it…

Only a fool buys an iphone and an iPad for $800 when he can get an HTC Evo for $100 with a monthly savings of $40.

Non January 30, 2011 at 7:51 pm

Sprint is releasing a Win phone 7 in March

Baddceo January 31, 2011 at 5:29 pm

30%…you’re on crack

ILoveMilf February 1, 2011 at 6:20 am

FYI the contract is NON-EXCLUSIVE

Htcdood February 1, 2011 at 7:25 pm

My HTC was 299 from Sprint, and the phone bill is the same. HTC has tons of glitches, just saying.

White iPhone on Sprint – magic

Incomp04 February 3, 2011 at 6:36 pm

Because you can’t break the laws of physics. WiMax operates at a higher frequency radio, which means it has less power to penetrate walls.

Rob February 4, 2011 at 8:16 am

Yeah, except an iphone or ipad can connect to a Cisco VPN. Try doing that with an Evo, or any android phone. I have been trying for over 6 months. Without rooting the phone, it is impossible, so using an android phone as a work device is impossible.

Guest February 4, 2011 at 3:34 pm

yes but rooting an evo is as simple as going to a website and clicking “Root”

Sotds February 8, 2011 at 2:44 am

The truth is the iphone has set the standard for smart phones. Nothing will ever compare, only copy. I have a android LG phone with sprint, its great but it gets slow and has bugs. Of course the iphone did at 1st as well. But Steve Jobs invented the computer, his phone is no different in the advancement of his knoledge. In my opinion Apple is king, and a lot less likely to get a virus from any hacker.

Kcmartz February 11, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Would be nice…

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:25 pm

U said it brotha…I think I might cry during an unboxing of 1

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:29 pm

That’s y I bought EVO in white. However Verizon came out wit thunderbolt…and it killed my EVO in quadrant score of 1981 to 1100 approx. Yikes…atleast I kno my bill won’t be 200$ . Root EVO for free hotspot keep ur 30/mo Sprint. That’s y I have best phone. Fcuk iPhone.until Sprint gets iPhone 5 lol

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:34 pm

My white EVO was 100$ after HTC hero trade in..phone bill def not same…depending on plan…glitchy?? Name one product that isn’t, my Sony ps3 and bravia, Apple ipod touch old iPhone old every phone. No 1 cell phone is exempt from glitch. I always take care of my electronics and have had 13 cellphones since 16 yrs old. Just saying…u need to read or experience more in life

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:37 pm

4g speed not 4th generation…THAT’S WHAT EVO CAN DO. go YouTube buddy…learn some things. And please take apples penis out of your holes

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:43 pm

Sprint is smart. But to take complete control, this is what’s needed: iPhone 5 dual core processer, keep same plan options, and make white available….bye bye t-mobile and ATT, Verizon has EVO killer HTC thunderbolt and iPhone 4 with phone call capabilities(lol) so they should survive

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:46 pm

Don’t waste ur time…arguing with Apple customers is equivalent to arguing with an actual apple. Don’t be delusional, as they are

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Y do I feel like u have ridden a unicorn before. Lmao sorry but u left urself open wit that.

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:54 pm

I agree. I wonder if Apple was never exclusive, would we would see android development as progressive

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 7:57 pm

Can u read? They said Verizon REQUESTED, AND WAS NULLIFIED. THEY CLEARLY TRIED TO IGNORE FEDERAL LAW…PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING…FYI

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Can’t t-mobile users use unlocked iPhone on t-mobile…do u ppl live under rocks…dammit already

Sicilianswag February 24, 2011 at 8:11 pm

Wi-max 2 maybe…for every problem there is solution…including physics…as understanding of physics develops…also will technology. From unlocking iphones to inhabiting mars…only ones who develop technology…scientists, inventors, etc…can know Wut future is capable of and fully understand it. Unless your a reader of their theories….u might be unaware. Laws of physics are able to be misunderstood or changed. Think about it. A scientist 200 years ago may have informed u that the impossible was such at that time…200 years later can be explained by a 10 yr old. Don’t put a limit on possibilities of physics

Mike Cortez41 March 1, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Its already time for sprint to get the iphone ……. I have been waiting for sprint to get the iphone it up to date it still hasnt but that doesnt mean that im switching to at&t or verizon

Erichard1220 March 4, 2011 at 4:39 am

Sprint is getting the iphone this summer. I know a sprint district sells rep.

lulukamiku March 18, 2011 at 1:46 am

r u sure????

bull March 31, 2011 at 1:58 am

i really think Sprint got screwed over because everyone else gets a good, clean, and awsome phone. All Sprint gets is a bunch of crappy phones that don’t last through the night. I think that Sprint should be the next carrier to hold the iphone

Torigurrl12 April 13, 2011 at 1:35 am

i have wanted since the iphone cam eout it would be very very nice to make and iphone for sprint but better! than everyone elses but works just the same take this into consideration!!

Bthompson783 April 27, 2011 at 11:08 pm

i think that sprint needs to get the iphone with in the year because i have been thinking to switch networks because sprint does not have the iphone. I used to think android would be just as good but its not nothing cmpares to the iphone! SPRINT GET IT NOW!!!!

Ddiluve April 29, 2011 at 4:13 pm

That would-be so cool. Because the the IPhone works so much smoother than the EVO, or the EVO Shift. (Yes, I’ve owned both:) And, I’d really love to own and enjoy that phone.

Guiromaraca April 30, 2011 at 8:06 am

I think that the Sprint 4G Wimax is the Iron curtain wall. Much further talks which LTE competition over the tenets of 4G Wimax. Assuming that Android will run on LTE’s thru AT&T and Verizon Carriers therefore Apple is willing to take an strategic outpouring expansion for other carriers like Sprint.

Spbarbieg May 8, 2011 at 4:03 am

I agree with you i think this is why at&t baught tmobil cuz they are scared of sprint like sprint and verizion run on the same towers.Sprint sould just buy verizon they share the towers why not just have them.

Spbarbieg May 8, 2011 at 4:04 am

but now tmobil belongs to at&t so i think its sprints turn
